Are there any contraindications?
Therapy using the MonaLisa Touch laser is contraindicated for those patients who:
- Have vaginal, cervical, or other lesions in the treatment area that have not been evaluated and diagnosed
- Have active vaginal or vulvar infection i.e., (herpes, candida, STDs)
- Pregnant or within 3 months postpartum
- Have vaginal prolapse beyond hymen Have history of radiation to vaginal/ colo-rectal tissue
- Have history of reconstructive pelvic surgery with “mesh kits”
- Have a history of impaired wound healing
- Have a history of keloid formation
- Known anticoagulation treatment or thromboembolic condition
What are the possible side effects
Possible side effects may include: Spotting, mild vaginal bleeding, pink or brown vaginal discharge, mild to profuse watery vaginal discharge, redness, swelling, inflammation, tenderness, itching, irritation, burning upon urination, pinpoint bleeding and discomfort.
How do I prepare for my treatment
- Shave the external treatment area at least 1 day prior to treatment. Waxing or laser hair removal must be at least 5-7 days prior to treatment to avoid further irritation.
- If on your menstrual cycle, please reschedule your treatment.
- Nothing in the vagina for 24 hours prior to treatment.
- You should avoid anticoagulants such as ibuprofen and aspirin and if medically permitted, prescribed anticoagulants for 1-2 weeks prior to the procedure.
- Discontinue any irritant topical agents for 2-3 days prior to treatment.
- You MUST arrive 1 hour prior to your scheduled procedure in order to let the topical anesthetic work properly.
Post Treatment instructions
- Avoid very hot water for at least 2 days after treatment.
- Avoid mechanical contact (including intercourse) for at least 2 days after treatment.
- You may resume normal physical activity (exercise) immediately following your treatment.
- In case of vaginal discharge, a panty liner may be worn.
- 3 treatments are recommended for maximum results.
- The external vaginal area may be slightly pink/red, swollen, and tender to touch after treatment and for a few days after the treatment.
- Contact the physician if there is any indication of infection, excessive swelling, redness, pain, or any other unusual symptoms.
- Emollient cream such as Aquaphor will be applied after the procedure and should be continued to keep area moist until the area is healed
