What is Laser Hair Removal?

It emits a gentle beam of light that passes through the skin, to the hair follicle, where it is absorbed. Upon absorption, the energy is transformed into heat, which will disable the follicle, while leaving the surrounding tissue unharmed.
The laser hair removal process is a cosmetic procedure that removes unwanted hair fast and effectively. Our laser is designed to accommodate clients of all skin types. The laser hair removal treatment is cost effective and simple.
Men, women and teenagers of all skin types including tanned, ethnic and dark-skinned types. At this time the laser technology is not effective on treating white, red or gray hair as the laser energy needs to target the dark pigment in the hair follicle to destroy it.

Is there anything special I need to do before my first and each Treatment?
In general here are some important things for you to do (or not do) prior to your laser hair removal treatments:
- Shave the treatment area atleast 24 hours before your treatment, come fresh shaven for better results, this is for comfort and effectiveness.
- DO NOT wax, pluck, tweeze, use bleaches or hair removal creams for 4 weeks proir to your appointments during your treatment series. Removing the hair with these methods removes what we are trying to remove with the laser.
- Avoid excessive sun exposure, self tanners and tanning beds 3 weeks before each treatment.
- Use sunblock with SPF 30 on areas to be treated that are exposed to the sun before and after treatment.
- Pregnant women should wait until after delivery before proceeding with laser hair removal services.
- Do not take Accutane for 6 months prior to treatment.
- Must be off any antibiotics or photosensitive medications for 2 weeks prior to your appointment.
What body areas can be treated?
We can do laser hair removal just about anywhere on the body. The most common areas for women are the upper lip, chin, underarms and bikini line. Men desire hair removal on the back, shoulders, chest and back of neck. We do arms, legs, toes, ears and more! We can treat any area with the exception of the areas around the eyes.
How long does a treatment take?
The length of a laser session may range from a few minutes to a couple of hours, depending on the size of the area being treated. More than one treatment may be required to complete large areas of the body.
What does the treatment feel like?
Each pulse of the laser feels like a slight sting or pinch, similar to the snap of a rubber band. No local anaesthesia is required and most people tolerate the treatment well.
Are there any possible side effects?
Side effects are rare. You may experience some slight reddening or local swelling at the treatment site, but this typically goes away within hours. On rare occasions, some blistering or bruising may occur, but typically resolves quickly. Also, the skin can become darker or lighter following treatment, but will generally return to normal within a few weeks. Limiting sun exposure will minimise the risk of complications.
What post-treatment is necessary?
You will need to use sunscreen regularly during your laser treatment package and for six weeks after completing your packages. Avoid irritants for seven days after treatments. Do not tan areas for two weeks after treatment.
Following treatment, you can generally return to work and resume all regular activities immediately.
How does
Laser Hair Removal work?
The laser targets the hair follicle without disrupting the skin's surface to remove hair on any part of the body for smooth softer looking skin. The energy directed from the lasers hand piece is absorbed by the melanin in the hair follicle, the generated heat energy is designed to destroy the hair follicle so it cannot grow back. Our top of the line approach to hair removal is safe for all skin types and targets all hair colors that contain melanin. The result is permanent hair reduction providing the most desired effect.
What happens during a treatment?
You will be asked to wear dark safety glasses to protect your eyes from the bright light. Next, a cold gel may be spread over the treatment area. The hand piece is then applied to your skin and pulses of light begin disabling the unwanted hair. When the gel is removed, much of the hair is wiped off with it. The remaining hair in the treated area falls out over the next week or two.
How many treatments are needed?
Because the laser can only permanently disable the hair follicle in the active growth cycle and not all hairs are in this part of the cycle at any one time, most clients require 6-8 treatments to achieve permanent reduction of hair. Our goal is to target hair growth in the Anagen phase where hair growth is active and contains the most melanin. Fewer treatments are needed if your goal is to reduce the number of hairs as well as the coarseness of the remaining hair. In hormonally induced areas (i.e. women's facial) usually 6-10 treatments will be required. A precise cost and treatment estimate will be given at the initial consultation. Hair Growth and Laser Hair Removal
Hair grows in 3 cycles: Active (Anagen), dormant (Catagen) and shedding stage (Telogen). The laser works by emitting a pulsed light that is passed through the skin and absorbed by the pigment (dark color) in the hair and all the hairs in the active or Anagen Stage are affected. By absorbing this laser energy, the hair follicles become disabled, permanently impairing their ability to grow.
